Although my primary education is on the electric and upright bass, I also teach piano, guitar, theory, ear training and performance training. I have a variety of techniques for teaching and communicating information. I use traditional methods as well as modern technology. I am big on learning by ear, but the ability to be able to read is important. Having a background in bass, I find it vital to learn a variety of styles including classical, jazz, funk, rock, blues, folk, and reggae amongst others. I am also big on theory and ear training. Normally prior to the first lesson, I will communicate with the student/parent to discuss their goals and go from there.
For online lessons, I use Zoom. I have my lessons organized so I can send audio as well as pdf’s to share information. I have taught students in Florida, Ohio, Oklahoma, Colorado, Canada and England among other locations.
For group lessons, I have done this mainly in schools doing workshops on topics such as Music Theory, Auditions, Bass Bootcamp, Rock and Pop Ensembles, and Rhythm Section workshops. I have also done Group Lessons for bands looking to improve their songwriting, stage presence, and playing among other aspects.
